Hey guys, i want to buy a good fail proof ato, since im plannin to dose kalk via ato. Recently my diy float swith failed and dumped all the fw in the tank.. since im going to start adding hard corals, im plannin to use kalk in ato. So i would like to buy a good ato but not being able to decide. Hydor is cheaper and available in my country India, as we have a distributor here. Tunze osmo is expensive and not easily available, so will have to arrange to buy online+40% duty.

I use Tunze but the central board has let me down once before....im otherwise loyal to the brand.... I dont think you'll need to dose anything for a while, unless you go all out and buy a ton of frags..... in smaller systems such as yours weekly water changes will be more than enough to replenish what has been consumed by your corals...

Keep in mind its better to "dose" with water changes rather than individual elements for the following reasons:

    1. when you "dose" with a water change you are not only replenishing that one specific element consumed but rather the whole pallet of elements, even those you have not/cant test...
    2. while you do a water change you are at the same (....OMG SQUIRREL IN MY GARDEN!!!....sorry....) time exporting nutrients.....

im not saying you should not dose, just make sure you really need to at this time.....

Well im planning on a new system with more hard corals.. so was planning on kalk.. since 10yrs iv never had a float switch fail (and marine velvet). iv been using simple diy method. But since this was my first time experiencing a float switch fail (and velvet), i want to go for a bullet proof method.. many spend 100z of dollars buying these branded ones, but still have had failures. Also since for the first time in years we have recently been having some of the local lfs taking official dealerships of big brands like hydro etc., now we too have access to them. So im intrested. I dont mind diy either but the relay i pirchased from ebay dint work somehow.

If I have a choice between the two, I'd go with the Tunze. I ran a Hydor for 1.5 years before it crapped out on me. You need to take into consideration that Hydor customer service is non-existent, and Tunze's customer service is very responsive.
