Hydor KORALIA Centrifugal Pumps

pumps came today. these are the 1200gph ones called 4

there about the same size as a sieo 820



the flow is different. they seem to create a swirling motion around the pump, and if you put your hand directly in front of the pump you feel little water movement. the flow comes out more in a flat wide line at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock(when the cord is pointing strait up).

they definitely move some water, but they dont have the directional force as the 820 i ran it next too.

they started right up out of the box(cant say that about the seio)

very quiet and you have to love the mounting mag. i think im going to like them

Do they have controllers for these yet?

 

there rated at 12watts. i dont know anything about a controller for them but i have heard the the new Seio controllers will work on them

If your in the market for a powerhead, definately pick up one of these. My Koralia 2 is holding down my 30 gallon hex easily.

 

So I just saw one of these at my local pet store on his 150 and the flow was wide and quite random.
I'm thinking of getting 2 for my 180 but am still debating getting 2 tunze 6000 with multi controller. These Hydor KORALIA only do 1200gph but at $60 compared to tunze $250 each it seems pretty crazy.
2 tunze setup $750 but more power plus wavemaking
2 Koralite $120

Now I know tunze has a great reputation and wavemaking is very important.
I'm interested what everyone thinks I should do?

LOL, oh boy. I started by whanting six or seven maxijets on wavemaker controllers, then i moved on to whant two tunzes on a controler, then to the wave2k, and i finished making a plan with the help of Otty, Tangster, Chrisandbarb, Coral reefer for a closeloop system for my 125 wich im currently working on. More reaserch you do, more you change the way you whant flow. Just remember what everyone has told me, you dont whant a jetstream of water blasting your corals, you whant massive amounts of water movement in your tank, avoiding any dead spots. I think that any method will workout fine, just depends what you are looking for. Powerheads equals pumps in maintank, electric cords, stuff that really dont appeal to the eye. Closeloop equals clean look, but more work and planing. I think that on the long run, you end up paying the same amount of $.

I love how in this hobby the more I know the more I am unsure on how I want it done myself. Sometimes I wish I could go back to having no idea and just doing what people tell me to I may be able to sleep better at night as well.

 

I replaced 2 maxijets with 2 #1 koralia's and the flow in my tank is awesome and gentle on the corals.
