how to grow cheato?

From what I hear those led flood lights work great. Thats what I'm gonna use soon. As long as light is getting to the algae I would think your ok. I'm putting a piece of thin piece of lexan across a small section of my 55 sump so I can put the dome lamp above and get better light spread.

 

I have a reflector with an led grow light. The grow light has a total of five red led and one blue led all 6 led are 3w totaling 18w.

 

unrelated but are you running your lights with an opposite schedule to your dt (meaning when lights go off in your DT they turn on over your cheato) supposedly this would help stabilize PH by compensating Co2 release .

 

Totally agree with these posts.

I use 2 reflectors like those, and 2 x 100Wcfl 6500K bulbs.
I keep them about 6inches off the waters surflace.

Be sure to shield you skimmer somehow, It well also grow lots of 'stuff' in it too if it gets a lot of light.

I have those timed to go about opposite my DT lights. I actually run the chaeto light 12/12 on/off.

Since the start, I"ve been growing LOTS of chaeto, LOTS

Put a 6500k bulb in it OFK. Buy a cheap zoo med T5 bulb, they make that spectrum.

 

I'm sorry I missed your question swiss, yes, I do run the lights on an opposite schedule from the DT.

 

Then just buy new bulbs for your t5,both in 6500k for plants and it will work fine.I do agree with the others,the spectrum is your trouble.
