I grow rotifers as a first food for H. reidi seahorse fry.
They can be grown in any size container with moderate aeration and using a live algae like nannochloropsis, or, what I use is a blended liquid containing spirulina powder. (blending micronizes particle size to make it appropriate for rots to eat)
I use inverted 5g water bottles with the bottoms cut out.
I enrich them before use by gut loading them using Dan's Food with Beta Glucan from Seahorse Source, the ultimate place for captive bred seahorses..
I culture them at 1.017 because that is what the seahorse fry are raised in and there is no osmotic shock to kill the rots off.
Growing rots at a lower s.g. is supposed to be more productive, but I have no problems doing it at this level so I'm not about to change.
I believe the limit the rots can stand is an increase of .007 before osmotic shock kills them off.
I supply rotifers and greenwater to hobbyists around me who are raising clown fry as I always have it available. They too use lower s.g. levels for the fry. (1.015 to 1.020 range)
