The LFS has a 3" super colored corcea. Absolutely stunning blue. I am really interested in it for $65 but it would be my first clam. If I do get it, it would be going in my 29g about 4-5 inches below the water surface 10" from a 150w metal halide. Would this be enough lighting? My CA levels run 430-520. My Alk runs 9-12. I do not dose, and maintain my levels via water changes. Although am not completely against dosing in the future but my demand does not call for it.

If your tank has been established for more than a few months I think you would be alright. The light you have would be sufficient.

Its about a 8 month old tank, all params (ammonia and nitrate) stabalized at 0, anytime ive had phosphate read out on a hannah meter its been around .02-.03.

I remember reading this definitely a good myth buster.

Your lighting will be fine, it might go eventually mid to higher in the tank, Crocea like the intense lighting but need some acclimation IME.

Keep in mind with larger clams you will have to dose eventually, they suck the Ca out of the water.

Check for pyramid snails prior to purchase, they can be found if present on the bottom of the clam and in between the shutes.

I would do some research on Pinched Mantel Disease as well so you know what to look for.

Good luck, my favorite kind of clam.

I will definitely research that, do you feel the clam could do ok on the bottom of a biocube hqi under the 150w, I forget the depth but I believe it is around 18" which i'm guessing means no. i'm debating between my placement options and it would look best at bottom but I think the original place I stated is the closest I can get it to the light which is probably best

I have kept my Crocea mid way in the tank under a 150 watts of MH approx 16 inches from the light and been happy with the results.

They are in nature a rock boring clam and should be placed in a stable indent in the rock work IME.

A Biocube and a JBJ are very similar in structure tank wise so you should be fine.

Sounds excellent. After a little reading pyramid snails should be easy to identify but pinched mantel may not present itself right away? I believe the fish store has had then a few Weeks and they looked very healthy and responsive and healthy so should be ok right?

    Yes should be fine.

PMD (Pinched Mantel Disease) is something one should be aware of, because it can be treated if caught in time and under the right conditions. Crocea IME seem to be more prone to it, especially if you are using GFO.
