Ive had this hammer for a few months now. When i fist go t it it would extend as far as it could. After a week or 2 it retracted alot and wants doing so good, some of the hammers shriveled up and fell off etc, so i moved it all over the tank and finally got it to a spot where it looked better but it still wont extend all the way. I stopped dosing as well cuz i found out my calcium was over 500 when i was dosing 2 times per week. Everything else was where it should be so i stopped ddosing the calcium, ph 8.4 and fuel all by aquavitro. Calcium is back down to 450 now, nitrates and nitrites at 0(do have a hair algae problem im battling and currently winnng!) Ph was at 8.1 sg is at 1.025. I have 3 new heads that are showing around the base so its obviously not dying. I attached a before and after pic

To me it looks healthy. Just remember low light and very little current. They are tough coral.

So does it not have to extend all the way like it used to in the first pic? Could it be like this cuz of the new heads that are growing? Its looking a little better now that i got some leds. I had power compacts before so im hoping it helps. So u say little flow and keep it low? Other things i read are it needs moderate light and medium flow. Should i move it? I have it mid level in my tank and close to a nano power head.

I have always been told very little flow at all because it will make the hammers fall off and I have seen this happen. Give it some time it will be back to normal in a day or 2

Mine is doing the same thing. I have it close to moderate flow, and mid level in my tank. Maybe low flow and low light is the way to go. Like Celeb said.

My frog is high in my tank and my torch is mid. They both started as 2 head frags. Both have very little flow and in a little over a year they are both at 8 heads and should be fragged because the frog is over 10 inches in diameter when fully open.

Lol ask raw dog the sob has tried to steal them both. That being said my lights are very low and I am putting new ones in tonight and I will be lowering both my torch and frog so they don't get hurt from the lighr

Sounds good. Maybe thats y the hammers were falling off before cuz i did have it in a slightly strong flow. Not blowing it over but it was moving pretty good. I have only had it i want to say 3 months and there are 3 heads at the bottom on eitger side. Now that i have these leds i can see them glowing green faintly lol. Cant wait for them to grow out.
