Keeping excess nutrients out of the aquarium water is one key element in eliminating your hair algae. There are many things that can add excess nutrients into your tank like some commercial foods which may contain undesirable things like nitrates, phosphates etc and overfeeding the tank is also another factor. Using a phosphate remover, RO/DI water, a good tank clean up crew ie. hermit crabs and snails and a high quality salt with no NO3, phosphates etc like Tropic Marin or similar good quality salt should really help bring the algae under control.

I just bought 10 Astraea Snails and had my water tested. My nitrates were at 50-60  They said that I need to do 3-4 water changes this week and to do water changes every week after that. I was doing one every 2 weeks.

Update: The snails already seem to be doing good, (Well, all 9 of them. All of my hermit crabs attacked and ate one of them this morning). The 9 are already working on the algae. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

How long do you think it will take to get rid of the GHA? 2 weeks? a month? 2 months?

I know you have a 29 gallon but how much LR ad how much gha are we talkin about? A picture would help also are you using RO/DI water?

Depending on those factors it could be A week or longer. I had 10 lbs of LR and about 3 inch long GHA and my CUC took it out in about a week and I haven't seen any since. But I also added chemipure elite to get rid of phosphates. Also if you wanna speed it up cut down on your photo period, I you deprive algae of sunlight then it dies quicker
