    Hello,

I just joined the forums today and wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself. My name is Dustin and I have been in the hobby for about 12 years. Before I bought my first tank, my brother had several tanks and before that, my dad and my grandpa had aquariums. All of us were into freshwater aquariums.

I had been thinking of switching to a marine setup because I saw a cuttlefish in a home aquarium and thought they were the coolest things on the planet. A few years back, a friend of mine introduced me to African cichlids and I quickly became a fan of them. I call them the poor man's marine fish. Their colors often rival that of marine fish and they don't cost nearly as much.

I currently have a African cichlid tank with various haps and peacocks. I am planning on setting my aquarium up with a breeding colony of Blue Neon Chiwindi.

    Dustin

    Welcome Dustin,
I have to agree Cichlids are the Jewels of the Lake.
Pictures of your setup would be great.
Cuttlefish are truly astonishing creatures but are on my long list of animals best left in the ocean.;)
There are a many options for marine animals that can thrive in a captive environment.

One of the reasons that I have not jumped into marine aquariums is that the biotope can be fairly delicate and sometimes small changes in water chemistry can result in the entire ecosystem falling apart. Freshwater tends to be less delicate and African cichlids are even more hardy.

Here is a video of one of my male Aulonocara. This one is my Sunshine Peacock cichlid. You might recognize some of the other cichlids in the video as they swim through including a full color male Taiwan Reef cichlid.
