That would work but I think we are kind of getting off the subject of the sea cucumber. If the oyster shell was tumbled then added to the tank it would be available for the sea cucumber to ingest and be safe for the other inhabitants. Or, could put the oyster shell and the sea cucumber in the sump then the tumbling might not be necessary.

 

trying to bypass the need for the seacucmber and another thing that if dies can create a problem in the tank!

I thought it was the acid in the sea cucumber stomach that released the calcium from the oyster shell? Maybe I read that wrong.

 

i'm sure it expedites the process, but, I know that calcium disolves in saltwater, so if you expedite the process by breaking it down, just maybe this is a good idea! My brother in law is a chemical engineer! i'll have him look at it tomorrow!

 

That sounds like a great idea. I'm curious about this as well. I'm still waiting for some of the pros to chime in though. I'm just thinking there has to be a reason why they are dosing instead of using this method it all.

 

yeah thats what i was thinking. if i did this i would probably just hang a bad of crushed oyster in my sump and keep a cucumber in the dt.

 

I wonder how often you would have to replace the oyster shells?
