Duncan Corals - Still having trouble !

my duncan prefers low light and low flow.

 

sometimes the water is too "clean". some corals like dirty water.I cant keep certain shrooms,zoos,softies,in my tank,so when i do get a new coral/frag and it doesnt do well after a week i move it to a nano that has lower CA/ALK that i have.and sure enough within a day or two they look happy

 

i done another test of the levels , everything is low apart from nitrate , roughly around 60 - 80 , i know that normal tap water has about 40 in it , but the question is - could this be effecting it all or is it the other things?... thanks

 

yes that can have an effect.try a water change to bring it down and use ro/di if u can

 

not sure how you mean that... have you tested the nitrates in your tap? How much nitrates are in tap water varies every few blocks of street and from time to time... I would say a blanket statement like that is not true. Your nitrates could very well be over a 100 in your tap. Or extremely low. Equally likely IMO.



In likelihood, you're probably getting them from multiple sources (tap water, food, etc.)

A water change will lower them temporarily (unless of course you use the same tap water that's been introducing them to begin with) but a water change is merely a band-aid, it does nothing to resolve the underlying problem.

Until the source is identified and corrected, this will be an ongoing battle...

as a reference... I have had 0 nitrates for almost a year now. My duncan likes it...

Nitrates as high as yours may stress it.


Don't recall if this was asked/answered - do you use test strips or liquid test kits?

 

mmmm im stuck lol.. as it is i dont want to wasit to much money resolving this , do you recon double blue lights will work better?.... i might go purchase that tonight

You should probably do all of the above. Start with the nitrates. You really should work on getting an rodi unit. I got one on ebay for $100 4 months ago. My tank has really flourished since then. If the spray bar lowers get it to where the outlets are slightly below water level and aim them parallel to the surface. This will help with oxygen/co2 exchange.

 

so what exactly does a rodi unit do? make the water pure?

iv changed one of the bulbs , so its more a blueish looking tank - ill see how that goes . and im going to do a water change now too . hopefully something will prevail.
