Hey Clam owners i just bought a clam from my LFS i researched on how to find a good clam, my lfs had it over MH it was mantle was fully open and it was not gapping, and i observed it for a week and it was doing good,

I bought my clam on Monday and float the bag and dripped acclimated it for 1.5 hours put the clam on the sandbed, its been almost 3 days already and the mouth looks open, and it might even look like its getting PM ( i do not know how PM looks only online, but never seen it personally)

i still believe its still stressed out and still acclimating from the lights/water, when i wave my hand over it does close.

now im thinking about removing the clam and doing a FW dip, but when i tried removing it the clam had already put his foot on the glass floor, i dont want to rip its foot. my main lighting is 6bulb ATI sunpower fixture, the par is about 250 at the clam..

So what should i do from here?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I believe your Crocea is just acclimating. Pinched Mantle Disease is commonly seen as a ruffling of the very edges of the mantle not a gaping siphon.

If it were my clam I would leave it be.

Im no expert on clams and PM but to me that looks like a healthy clam. I did a little search for PM pictures and a lot of them look like this picture below. Im just not seeing that in your clam. Also, everything im reading is saying that the fresh water dip should be a last resort as it can cause more harm if the clam doesnt have PM.

Leave it be and just watch it. It looks fine to me. It is just showing signs of stress. If it closes when shadows go by or fish over or near it it is a good sign.

Leave things be. You have a rock boring clam in the sand, so it could be in need of more light.

Everything reacts different during stressful periods.....including new owners. ;D

Given time, everything will reveal itself. BTW, That's a nice looking clam you scored.

I have a question. I have a non reef live rock and fish tank. I’ve inherent a baby/very small Dersa Clam. Because I’m non reef I don’t have lighting so need to upgrade. Can anyone recommend what type of lighting I should get. I have 2 tanks. 60 and 75 gallon (different locations).
Keep in mind I probably will never do a true reef tank so don’t need top of the line. Planned on upgrading lights and getting this clam is making me do it now. On purpose.
    Any ideas?
