Do it right.

I have a question for you guys. When you buy new corals, what do you do to make sure you don't introduce any parasites or diseases to your Display Tank? What kind of Dip you use and do you Quarantine New Corals and Invertebrates? Thank you.

 

I've never dipped inverts as most are too sensitive to changes in water quality. For coral I float a bag with a hole in the TOP for air exchange to temp match and salinity match, then take a 1/2 gallon container of fresh tank water and put the coral in there for inspection. I've never really dipped corals, though most use lugol's solution or their own iodine mixture. HTH

 

Look to CoralRX, Iodine or Bayer (some smooth skin acropora may RTN)

By dipping the sps you may not kill all pest but you will probably knock some off allowing you to see if your coral has any pest that need to be addresses prior to putting the coral in the display.

Flatworms are a common hitch-hiker easily stunned and dislodged by dips. Nudibranchs are another common pest.

Visual inspection is really important.

I did a little more research over the weekend on internet and seams that a lot of people as you mention also like Bayer Solution. But exactly what and where I can buy the right solution? Please let me know. I still have RX, Coral Dipp by Sachem and Lugol Solution but all that staff is pretty old < I did not realize that RX has expiration date 6/13 > so needs to be replaced anyway.. Thanks for further advice.

 

Bayer solution is a pesticide that you should be able to find easily at places like Home Depot.
