In my experience the only thing that lives longer than a goldfish is a cockroach. I've got about 2 dozen in my pond, every summer it get's really hot, over 100 degrees for several days, and every winter I've got ice on top, last winter it was about 18" thick. Never lost a goldfish because of it.

Gold fish live a long time if they're healthy to start and not more than one per galo

stumbled on this site this morning.Wondered myself how long they live. I have one in a bowl in our bathroom with a submergable pump and filter. I paid 29 cents out of a "feeder tank" at petsmart or petco...forgot which. That was 5 years ago. Change the water when it looks dirty. Just keep tap water in a galon plastic water jug. Water will evaporate and have to add some. Usually I just take out 3/4 the water and add the fresh(after it has sat for 48 hours to loose the chlorine) The other day I cleaned the entire bowl. My fish doesn't care. Feed tetra min goldfish flakes. 3 or so times a day. My fish will make noise by poping it's mouth on the water if it wants attention. I left it with the neighbor for 6 days..Her house colder than mine and she kept grandkids...They probably fed it too often...Didn't seem to matter. I guess the fish is just healthy. Ever heard the devotion about the lady who freed her goldfish in the pond? They just swam around in the same circle as always...
