now that you figured that out, how are things with the tank? fish still alive?

I would have never thought a small thing like that would cause such havoc!

thanks for sharing...It helps to prevent others from making similar mistakes... stick to pvc and poly hoses i guess. At least you know what happened and once the copper is cleared out you can begin restocking corals and inverts!!! good luck

Well they basically got a full copper treatment! And I found a bunch of dead bristle worms. Suprisingly a few snails made it.

We recently went out to grab some water samples in an estuary and unbeknownst to us, the intermediary device we used to grab our samples, had 2 brass nuts on the inside.

We were analyzing several metals, including copper. Our copper test came back relatively high. I looked inside the grab device and sure enough....cost our compay a few Benjamin's.

Are you ever going to be able to reintroduce coral in that tank now?

I dont see why not. Once the polyfilter/carbon gets all the copper out it should be fine.

^ Because the rock/sand will have absorbed it too, and will leach it for quite a long time.

Hindsight info here, but brass is an alloy. A copper-zinc alloy.
