My ultra maxima clam isn't as bright as it use to be. It use to be a bright teal now it is a dull blue. Its been in my tank for 3 1/2 months. I do a 10% water change every week. Not that many corals in my tank. It's under 2 x 250w mh 4 x 54w t5 actinics in a 75g tank. What would cause the color to fade?

Where is it placed? How big is it? Most common reason for color fading in a clam is lack of light.

Sounds as though you have more than enough light.

If you look down on your clam from above does the color look more like when you first got it.

Lighting types makes a huge difference in how the clam appears, it's not necessarily a result of how the clam is fairing under a specific light but rather how the clam reflects that specific light.

+1, my derasa and maxima change "colors" every now and then based on the angle they sit at, they both fidget here and there. That should be PLENTY of light for it.

"angle of the dangle" lol cheryl, that saying doesnt bring to mind a clam IMO;)

Ahhh I did not realize this term had that type of connotation.

OK. relation to the position of the clam with relation to the placement of the lighting fixture.

And if you guys had not quoted me I would have been able to delete or restate my intent.

Once the clam is fully acclimated to your new bulbs you can move him up into the rock work slowly. You may like the color reflection better in a different placement. Just make sure it's a stable area where the clam can not fall from, in a depression or similar spot.
