Thank you Thor, I think going down the more basic route to start is a very good idea, GFO, carbon etc
carbon dosing in any form, is an ideal solution for polishing up a set up where the basics have already been taken care of , and as such yours sounds like a good idea for progression

    thank you 96p993

I have actually moved my reef tank over from Vodka to vinegar and have experienced some benefits from doing so ( larger measures, easier to spread out, does not encourage cyno to the degree Vodka does etc)

I am certainly considering substituting Vinegar for Bio Fuel in next round of testing as it would help me to see the effects of both when used in competition with each other

    Steve,

    Nice objective experiment.

I current.y don't dose anhything, and occas. use about 1-2ml of Vodka in my manual top offs daily. I may switch to vinegar, or even these bio pellets thingies.

You live in PRC? My wife is from NanJing. I've been to China several times, with my wife and visiting inlaws, etc. From my standpoint, it's an interesting and beautiful place.

Maybe I missed it but what are/were you basing the change out of gfo on?

    Thank you Todd
Vinegar is worth considering IMO and have settled on that for my main set up
China is beautiful IMO next time your around, give me a shout

    Hi Rick
Nothing very sceintific, as still not easy access to Hannah Checkers out here
I opted for doing a fortnightly change on the GFO, it was only a couple of table spoons in the reactor, possibly changing it more often would have made a difference
we do know that in set ups with High phosphate GFO could be exhausted within a couple of days

Ok, I wasn't sure. The last I remembered about it was that you GHA.

I think with such a small amount you should probably change it every couple of days. Changing it every 2 weeks or once a month is more a maintenance schedule than one used when you are aggressively fighting algae. I was surprised by the poor performance of gfo in your tests but now I understand why.
