Battling green (hair?) algae, tried many things but still no solution..

    Yep, you can get a lot of things from a frag plug, or most anything else that comes straight from another tank.

    FWIW, I've added dry base rock to existing systems many, many times with no issues. Rocks are not inherently polluted with phosphates; that usually comes from being in a neglected aquarium. Also, bryopsis is a low-nutrient algae, which is why controlling NO3 and PO4 has little to no effect on it. There are several variants as well, some of which closely resembles GHA; only a well-trained eye can see the difference.

    I'm battling GHA as well. Got a Lawnmower Blenny last week and he loves the stuff. Plus he's a really funny fish to watch so I think I'll keep him around after it's under control. I know it's not a solution to the problem, but he's definitely helping with the removal process.

    Any form of removal will assist greatly as the die-off can feed new growth. :eek:
