Alk Cal Mag Rec Chart Per Aquarium Type

I saw this table from Red Sea the other day and thought it was worth sticking somewhere as it is an interesting guide for recommended levels of alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium depending on the type of corals you keep.

I read an article, but can't remember where, in a study that Ca below 360 inhibited growth of corals but above 400 did not have any additional benefit. Alkalinity below 7 dKH inhibited growth of coral but there appeared to be an almost open ended 1 to 1 growth relationship to an increased level of alkalinity. I think they did any testing on Mg.

 

Sounds like an interesting article 2in10, if you remember where, I'd be interested in reading it.

 

Hopefully it will come to mind or I will find it. I am fairly confident that it was from an online reefing magazine and from one of the big names in the field.

I agree. I think the breakdowns are helpful. The point about lower levels for mature corals is rather interesting.

That said, the link by 2in10 is a good read too.

It all is great but unfortunately can end up being confusing. I think the chart is nice in that it lets you know which type of corals, algae and animals require more calcium than others.
