ZOMG my pH is 8.65!! (Solved:bad calibration solution)

Just like the title says, Im trying to figure out what I should do. Have been reading up on how to reduce pH since it hit 8.65 yesterday. Im really lost.

Take a look at the chart off my Apex:



Im not dosing ANYTHING at the moment, since the weekly waterchange is keeping up the Ca, KH and Mag consumption.

Here is the info:
-pH 8.25~8.65 (last 7 days lowest~highest on my Apex. Calibrated weekly)
-Ca: 527 ppm (Hanna Checker)
-KH: 7.3 dKH (RedSea)
-Mag: 1,280 ppm (RedSea)

-90 gallon with 20 gallon sump
-No fuge
-BioPellets (400ml)
-SWC Xtreme Cone Skimmer 160
-Mixed reef with very light bioload

So what would you suggest??
-aerate with CO2
-add soda water
-use vinegar (I wand to avoid this since Im running BP)
-pH reduction additive (I want to avoid also)
-any other method?

Water change???!!!! I remember seeing your PH was super high a few days ago too when I was on ReefTronics.

 

Hey Chris, yeah, its possible that the recent aggressive water change is causing this. But when the fresh made water goes in the sump during the water change, but the pH doesnt spike or anything... before and after the water change.. hmmm

 

How long have ya run the BP's? maybe take some out and see what happens!

 

I would 1st check and recalibrate your probe

as often with very high PH readings , the problem is probe that has drifted from calibration

electrical interference also plays a part in some PH readings on monitors being in err

before taking any corrective action at all - check and double check those numbers

i think he means do another emergency water change to even out. but maybe do a check of the ph of the new water. i have heard of bad batches of salt making it to market. but it was extremely low ph not high ph.

 

Ive been running BP since the last Aug. In theory, the bacteria is consuming the oxygen in the water column, so if I reduce the amount, less oxygen will be consumed, thus even higher pH.

Like I mentioned, I have been calibrating the probe weekly. After the calibration, I test with the liquid to make sure the reading is accurate. But I will calibrate the probe right now.

I just did 10 gallon water change the day before yesterday, and it hit 8.65 yesterday..

I would highly agree with this..
Dont do a thing till you can triple check yor prob

It took me 4 different times of recalabration on my prob to get it correct.
And mine said it was low 7.4

 

Im doing calibration right now

 

There is also a possablitly that the prob is bad
I never trust a liquid test for ph there mosty wrong and high

Ps My first prob went bad in three weeks a prob can fail at any time like any electronic
