Zoas HELP!!!

You need to find a way to introduce some oxygen into your system to get your ph to rise. I'm not one to ever check my ph but I have a 150 gallon topless system with 2 sumps and 2 skimmers, 4 koralia 4's. There's plenty of oxygen going on here so my ph stays up. Try aiming a powerhead at the surface of the water??
Do you have a skimmer on there. It may be worth getting a small skimmer just for oxygen purposes.

 

There is a powerhead aimed at the surface, and as far as oxygen goes, i think my oxygen is fine. There is plenty of flow in the tank, and that powerhead actually breaks the surface slightly. there's three fairly large fish in there, and plenty of other corals that are doing just fine so i highly doubt that PH is the problem. I just measured again today, 8.5

 

It might just take some time as they are stressed. I bought some grunge from garf.org earlier this year, has some really big chunks of rock in it. I bought it to make some new LS, so I put some dead sand into a tank with the grunge. I put it into a tank in a dark closet w/o light for about 4 weeks. After the tank cycled I turned on the lights to check everything out, and I found out that there was about 35 polyps worth of frags in everything. I yanked them out with hopes of reviving them, it took about 2 weeks before they started to open, but they did.

Now the reason I'm boring you with this story is just to let you know how hardy they actually are. My latest additions went through a cycle and lived If you give them time they'll open, sometimes it just takes a long time.

 

My tank crashed last november when i was gone for a month to Europe, and let my brother look after my tank- came home, and it was literally a blanket of cyano + gha covering everything in my tank.

My zoas had a blanket of cyano covering them (and im not talking about a thin blanket- im talking a 5 star duvet). I gave up on my tank- let the crash take its course.... roughly 3-4 months later when everything that was going to die- had died... i started the cleanup process- sure enough after those 3 months of hiding under a blanket, my zoas had lived- they looked weak and pretty iffy- but they were back to spreading like a nuissance within a month. If only my other corals were so lucky.

 

I actually purchased this green zoa you see here for 30 bucks from a PETCO !! Yes I said the dreaded P-WORD !!

All my other zoas took a few days to open. As yo can imagine the lighting sucked at petco and you could barely see what color this zoa was, but I took a gamble and it opened after a week and look at it now...I love it. Zoas just take awhile don't sweat it

 

Yeah I had bought 3 pieces of pink and blue zoas a few years back and after i got them they all "died out" two months later the polyps started growing out on the same rocks and I have 500 polyps now in that tank i think? Points is be patient with them!
