I recently took all my rocks out of my 34 gallon reef and scrubbed them and then boiled them for 15 seconds because i couldn't get rid of this green hair algae. Two days later I now have this yellowish gold algae growing where the lights hit the most but its spreading. So has anyone ever had this or do you know what it it.

Does it look like hair algae aside from the color? Originally I was going to say it was dead, but you think it is spreading?

What you are describing sounds like golden algae. This can easily deplete you O2 levels and is the cause of many fish kills in freshwater habitats. This algae is also toxic to fish. Most golden algaes are freshwater species, but there are a few SW species. I would remove the rock the algae is on and bleach it. IDK of any other ways to get rid of it.

However, a pic would be best. It could be diatoms as well, but if it is actually gold in color I would atleast remove the rock.
