Unfortunatly I do not have much advice to offer here. Hpefully evolved can chime in or you can message him, he is kind of our wrasse guru here.

I want to assume but you know what they say about that. Do you have a deep enough sandbed for them to sleep in? Tangs and drwaf angels can be very territorial it is often hard to add a new fish with them established but it seems like your tank would be plenty large enough.

A few weeks is not very long either. During thsoe weeks did he appear normal, eat normal, swim about during the day normally, etc?? Whenever I get a new fish I am always stressed the first few months. I feel like if I make it the first month without signs of disease or any issues than it will be a smooth ride. Its not until 6 months or so though that I feel like I am in the clear and the fish is going to be a fine lifelong resident in the reef. That is just my personal opinion though from experience, whenever I have a loss its usually in the first month.

I had a similar issue with a Royal Gramma that had a gill disease of some sort. Take a look. It started the same way breathing heavy no signs of disease noticed until it was too late.

Unfortunatly many disease manifest in the gills where we do not see any signs on their body or fins. I know this is the case with ich.

Wrasses are more prone to flukes I believe than other fish. I do not know anything about that disease and its symptoms or if it hides in the gills. Somethingyou cna research into though. I think I forgot to place it in the previous psot but I am sorry for the loss of your wrasses. Always hard to lose a living creature without knowing why.

They are indeed, and that's exactly where flukes end up.

The symptoms you describe are all indicative of either flukes or other internal parasites; both of which are things you can't easily see/spot.

QT'ing wrasses prior to introduction and treating with PraziPro typically eliminates such parasites.

So is flukes contagious like ich where he needs to treat his other wrasse/ fish as well?

Also is it like ich where it can be in the water but unless stressed the fish will not come down with disease?

No, not like ich. They need a constant host, although I'm not quite sure exactly how long they can live without one, but surely not much more than a few days.

They could be transmitted to another fish, but that's far from an assurance like ich typically is. They're typically transferred at night while one fish sleeps near another.
