I must just be plain lazy!! so i have my salt tak set up about 6 ft off the ground so i can gravity feed all of my water changes. In order to make the process as simply as possible i thought i woudl rig up a screw feeder into a bucket of salt to carry salt up and into my SW reservoir. However, this seems to be a very dificult task. I would like the screw to be made of plastic for obvious reasons. Has anyone made anything similar? On the same priciple as the EHEIM automatic feeder.

the only thing i could think of is using a long drill bit. They make ones that are about 1.5 to 2 ft long, i know its metal, but its steel, i don't think iron will really hurt anything

Why not just put a pump to the barrel to push water to the sump and it can be used to mix it also , Thats what I do. a Pump on a bypass to mix and then when I want to move it to the sumps just move a valve level . when done back to mixing position . The arguer will require a frame system and motor to run that the pup is a lot smaller and far far far far cheaper.. Unless you are moving salt for a living ?

yeah, i overlooked this when putting the mixing tank 6ft in the air. Its a 50G that im using for mixing my SW and i didnt leave a very big space above it to let me dump salt into it. I can use a small cup but thats about all i can fit. My next option was just to add water to the salt bucket and a pump, just make a really concentrated salt solution pump it up to the SW tank. My problem is getting the salt into the tank!!! Ill figure out something

I am thinking this could be made with a large diameter pvc pipe, a small diameter pvc pipe, a small motor (or way to attatch it to a drill) and some semi rigid plastic that can be cut into discs.... fairly easy really.

cut plastic into discs to fit onto the outside of the smaller tube, and tightly inside larger tube, cut through one side of the disk so that you can pull it into a small spiral shape, attach discs to the smaller tube, probably using silicone or similar substance, pulling them up and attatchind discs edge to edge and then attatching those edges together. then, I would stick that inside the larger pvc pipe, stick the large pipe inside your bucket of salt, and give her a twist. may need a cutout in what would be the "top" portion of the large pvc so that the salt can fall into the initail few discs.

I can not guarantee this would work, I just came up with it off the top of my head...
