Well, it's been a while (once again), so I'll give you a couple of pics taken today. Nothing much has changed I'm afraid to say, so just more of the same I'm afraid.

We actually have 26 little ones in various stages of growth. They're all developing nice colours and stripes, and are really cute.

The last batch of eggs hatched and we let them go as we were concentrating on this batch. As luck would have it, they haven't laid again since although they're hiding behind their rock and may actually have laid on the rock itself where we can't see.

    Time will tell.:cheesy:

Well, they laid again today. So we're off for another batch by the look of things.:cheesy:

Well, hatched last night, so couple of days longer than the previous batch. Managed to catch about 100 of them (nearly all in fact) and they all hatched at the same time, 20 minutes after lights out. The bloody tank was teeming with them, and it was manic trying to catch them all.

So they're transferred to their new home, and left to settle in overnight. Just removed about 20 or so dead ones this morning, and gave them their first feed of rotifers. :cheesy:

Well, unfortunately it's not good news. They're all dying. I took 20 out first thing in the morning, then another 10 at lunchtime, and I've just removed in the region of 50 or so now. You'll forgive me for not having the heart to count them all.

Something has gone wrong with this batch, and my best guess is that they stayed in the hatch too long. They usually take 8 days from spawn to hatch, but this time it took 10 days. Only thing I can think is that the 2 days extra meant that they were surviving on their yolk sacs in the egg, and didn't have enough energy left to survive when they hatched. I don't really have much hope of the remaining 20 or so fry making it, so we'll just have to sterilise everything and wait for the next batch.

    Sorry folks

Oh, the first batch are doing fine. We lost one last week after it got into a fight with another one over a particularly nice corner of the tank. But we have 25 left and they're all eating flake 3 times a day, and growing nicely.
