Good Lighting and Water Quality...Don't worry about feeding it.

If it's white, it definately needs to be fed. They are more attractive when they are starving because they are white Vs. beige/brown. H. malu's will stay more white but H. crispa should turn fairly brown if properly cared for. Purple tips would indicate H. crispa usually.

They need a LOT of lighting and you should also be giving it krill and/or silversides (it depends on the size of the anemone).

No matter which species, this is a very challenging anemone. I would recommend a tank that has been stable for at least 2 years. You need near-perfect water conditions and excellent filtration because they need a lot of food. Most clownfish won't take to either species. The one obvious one would be Sebae clowns but also the bluestripe clowns too.

Really? I read that overfeeding an anemone is usually a really big problem. I thought that they fed off of their own zooxanthellae and only needed very occasional feedings. I have never fed my anemone anything ever and I have had them for about 6 months now. Then again mine are BTA's and his is a sebae...are they really that different?

    Yes

I could throw a de-chlorinator in my toilet, dump some Morton's salt in there, and throw in a Condy anemone and it would be fine with me turning on my incandescent lights a couple of times per day. Heck, I could do that with an E. quadricolor too (BTA). You CAN'T do this with a Heteractis or Stichodactyla or even most other anemones.

I have to bite my tongue anytime someone proudly posts that their BTA split. Well, them splitting is a survival mechanism because they don't have a brain and don't understand that they are in an aquarium Vs. the ocean. Their "offspring" have nowhere to go to find the better location.....they are stuck in the same location.

So does that mean I should feed my BTA? Or is it fine as long as they are still looking healthy?

When a sebae anemone is white, it means it has expelled it's zooxanthellae and cannot get sustenance from light.
It should be fed until conditions are such that it can regain it's symbiotic zooxanthellae again.

Yeah...I had one large BTA anemone for about 4 months and then it split and I have had the two Green BTA's for almost 3 months...I wanna get rid of one, but no one will take it. My other reefer friend doesn't want it cause he says its a "colonial" anemone. They are very very bright green and they are fixed right next to each other in the LR.
