Weight on glass...

I am worried about the amount of weight on the bottom part of my tank. I do have about an inch of sand in my 50 gallon long tank. I am wanting to add a little yard statue in there. I attached that picture. It's a broken Angel and it weighs about 17 pounds. I wouldn't have any other rock around it in my tank. Has anyone else done this before? Because I'm worried about that amount of weight in a small area.

 

I would be worried that the cement has excessive lime and would leach causing parameter issues.

I just watched couple videos where they talked about curing it for use in tank. That would probably be your best bet.

As far as weight that is a good question. some people have 1.5lbs or so lv per gallon so I would thing you would be fine.

 

But that weight is spread across the tank. I was thinking of getting some plastic sheet and putting it under the sand to distribute the weight.

 

I have used this and seen others use it to keep rocks off glass. Is that what you were thinking of

I wouldn't put that in my tank, but that's me. Weight won't be an issue if you choose to put this in. It's a good idea put egg crate on the bottom, I did this to mine.
