Think my Maxima is dead

Update 4-15-14

Pulled Maxima out and cleaned snails off. Took a toothbrush and really scrubbed him down. Hole in the bottom is sorta closing up. But clam is still strong because I can’t open the shell. Its holding tight which tells me its has some strength. So I got a small tank for hermit crabs. Filled it with tank water and air stone. Fits perfectly in top of my tank and can close the lid over this. This way the water temp won’t change. Works out well. I know odds are low if it surviving but I’m going to try!
Bought a 6 Line Wrasse last night. Has a cool green tale. Added him last night but its hiding in a rock. Added him to now try to save the Derasa. I can’t get it off rock to check for snails

There was another rock next to Derasa but that had the Maxima on it. I pulled it out to clean. This Derasa is locked down on the rock. Cant budge it at all! Can’t get off the rock to check for snails. Hope the 6 Line Wrasse will help to save him but know its hit or miss with that. But can’t hurt

Wish I would have this sooner. My clam moved a little on the rock he had been sitting on for months. I looked at him yesterday and he looked fine. Got up this morning and the shell was empty except for a few members of my clean up crew. I didn't even look for snails. Thought the hermits just got really hungry.

RIP little buddy. Woke today on my 40th birthday so see this. Um yeah that's not good. Not sure it can cover from this!!
Sucks. Lost the good fight. I tried everything I could to save him. Now focus is on my Derasa. Think I saw eggs on inside edge of mantle. But if I get close to it the clam sucks everything in and closes. No way to see if that's what it is.
It's also locked on the rock. Can't move at all. So it's a waiting game. Hopefully 6 Line Wrasse will help.
I'll keep posting.

Sorry for the loss BG. It was a good fight. The mason thing is you found out the problem and others can learn from it.
