Things I should have known or thought I did.

Run it as far away from people as possible.lol High up in the air is best ime.

 

I just bought a whole bunch of airline tubing and cut a piece of insulation out of the bottom of my window (the part that ensures a snug fit when it's closed) to fit the tubing, then I took a piece of sponge and put it over the end of the tubing so nothing crawls in there or gets stuck.

 

Lawn treatment (pesticides!)

 

I built in inline carbon filter for mine. I used 0.5" tubing because my run is over 15 feet and I wanted to ensure I wasn't restricting air to the skimmer. I simply took a small section of 1 inch pvc and filled it with rox carbon with some filter floss on either end and connected the hose.

 

I may run my skimmer intake to a window after I run out of soda lime. Not sure How I'm going to do that with the window and all.
For now I have a CO2 scrubber. I made a home made scrubber in about two minutes .. All it is is a BRS reactor insert filled with Soda lime and some duct tape to hold the tube on it. Brings my PH from about 7.7 at early morning to around 8 to start the day and 8.2 end of day.
Of course if you can run it to a window easily and aesthetically that would be nice since the air is free.

 

I copied this from my build thread, I just wanted to share my experience with this.

So the arrow indicates when I ran my skimmer air line was put outside the window. As you can see around July 19th the highest it was prior to running the line outside, the pH at this point was 8.36 at 8:11pm and exactly 12 hours later it plummeted to 8.09 at 10:11 am.

The skimmer air line going outside with a little filter on it is the only change made at that time. So you can see it is not nearly as "shaky" and has a tighter high and low limit. At this point, I highly recommend running that line outside.

Lawnmowers are probably the biggest polluters so be wary of placing the intake in areas with poor ventilation.Higher the better usually.

 

Good thing I live in a leaky house, its definitely not a LEED build.

 

Maybe i will unhook it before i mow to keep those fumes out. I have the carbon filter AnotherMike suggested, but why take a chance, you know.

 

Sounds like you've got it covered. I would also add to stay away from any furnace/heating/cooling vents.

I'm thinking about a way to make this happen... however, the easiest way might be thru the floor and over to a basement window. haha
