i have never bred saltwater fish but i used the brine shrimp hatchery (the bottle) to feed fresh water fries. it is very easy to use the only issue is to be able to separate the shrimps from the egg shells (if added to the tank will float on the surface and hard to remove)

Yep, Drew they simply love baby pods. I have never hatched brine and don't believe in doing so.

Juveniles are generally measured from 3/4 to 1" they will also start getting their polka dots. It generally takes 2 months from when they are released for them to be big enough for release into the main tank. Yours are still in the baby phase but they will get their soon enough as long as they are fed. My tank feeds mine, which is a much more viable source then brine. Because in the wild they feed off of phyto, zoo, and like drew said baby pods. I like to stick with naturally occurring things and not brine shrimp those are better left for fish farms that mass produce these fish and try to get them to grow as quickly as possible so they can sell them off.

    UPDATE

I have not seen any of these guys since they went into the rocks and plants. :(
I have been throwing food in there in hopes that some are still alive. (Although others here have said they didn't feed at all and they were fine..)

The last I saw them is when I arranged the rocks.

I have about 60lbs of rock in my 34 gallon tank. So they can hide if they want. I was tempted to pull rocks to look for them but I already stressed everybody out so much last weekend with my epic tank move, I hesitate to do this again.

I have been looking for 'tells' - I have sponges in my overflows - nothing there - and my skimmer is not going nuts and I don't see any in my sump. So... who knows?

    What do you recommend?

I would recommend just leaving them alone. They are probably just hiding in the rocks. They are tiny so they can turn anything in to a cave. However, when you see one I would catch it and move it to your fuge.

The babies do not last long in the main display the parents are very good at hunting them down and eating them. They should be kept separate for at least 2 months until they can fend for their own. Your tank will have plenty to feed them however, the parents will have plenty of them to feed on. Also hermits and other carnivores will make a quick meal out of them.

I just released my 2 month old spawn into the aquarium yesterday and the parents quickly chase after them they can spot them anywhere even in the dark probably a scent they use or the loud clicking sound they use as some sort of sonar. Believe it or not cardinals have a huge jaw span and can even eat juvenile cardinals. When cardinals become adults and pair off they become very territorial even to other cardinals and will not hesitate to consume a 1/2 to 1" juvenile cardinal.

Wow. That would explain a few things. I live within walking distance of a reef aquarium shop with reef fish for sale - I will ask them if I can bring them there if there is a next time. Thanks for info. What a shame.

Well don't give up hope! You may be surprised to find one or two make it. Just wait and see they may hide out and survive till they are big enough.

I'm setting up a bigger fuge to accommodate babies if my cardinals ever breed. Maybe you could catch yours and put them in the fuge if you have one.

Those bangais go for alot more then my pajamas, that was like $150 in store credit in that bucket, probably more if you attach the captive breed tag to them. ;D

Will do! That would be cool..

I'd catch them but I haven't seen them since day 2 of putting them in there. Good point on the money - hadn't thought of that.
