Ok, so I recently got some SPS, have only had a monti & ailing Birdsnest before.

I currently have 3 types of Birdsnest & a stylo.

The polyps are almost always extended both day and night, lights on & off.... is this normal/ healthy?

yep and a rather good sign that your water-chemistry/tank mates arent stressing it....my 2 cents

Good to know, I was worried that maybe they weren't getting enough light.

The monticap, I never see any polyps extended, can't recall seeing a pic with any other monticap having any either...at least not that one can see without mechanical aid.

to my knowledge motipora digitatas will show elongated polyps if indeed there is a lack of light....a picture would help, but either way its not going to kill your coral

ouch.... thats little to no polyp extension...judging from the algae bloom your water must be off. have you tested po4 and no3 recently? dinos are common in new systems how old is your tank? its a good thing if they are gone, but these things can creep back on you. I let my cheto gerow out of control and started having Cyano blooms again. cut WAY back the cheato and the cyano vanished over a couple days (phewww)

here are what my stylophoras and montiporas look like...

on a side note iv had terrible luck with hystrix (bird nest) thus far

That picture was from a few days ago.

My system is over 5yrs old, but recently added that big center rock (that the SPS is on).

    Current pic

As you can see it's dying back and am building an ATS and have a reactor ( for biopellets or GFO) I'll be putting online as soon as I get the plumbing parts.

Just added well rinsed sand for my engineer gobies.
