So my six line is usually a very active fish and swims around all day. Yesterday he was no were to be seen and he didn't even show up for feeding time. Today I lifted a rock to find him sitting there, not moving much. He swam out a little bit, staying on the sandbed, and is now just sitting between two rocks motionless. I'm afraid that my six line won't last much longer. Is this normal or should I be worried? What can I do?

    Start by checking your water.

Did you change anything in your tank recently? Mine got stressed out and hid for awhile whenever I changed anything. But like Moxtrain said start with water param. Is he the only fish? If not how's the rest of them doing.

All of my parameters checked good. Nitrite=0 Nitrate<10 Ammonia=0, ph and alkalinity a little low, but still good. Is that enough to make the sixline freak out? I also have a small clownfish and he is acting perfectly normal. The sixline and the clown have always got along. Everything else in the tank is fine, just the sixline is acting weird.

There are a whole bunch of things this could be. Everyone will need more information to figure out whats going on. Is there anything different looking about the fish? Is the fish still eating? Is your fish pooping regularly? Are his colors as vibrant as they should be? Does he appear to be gasping? Does the fish have any motor control issues? Is the water temperature correct? Has your salinity changed in your tank? Is there stray voltage in the tank? There are questions missing that could be important here but you get the gist.

    Well sadly he died today..

My lfs checked my water and everything was good. Temp is correct. He was eating fine and acting normal before he suddenly disappeared. I found him and he was just laying on his side, gasping. Every once and a while he'd straighten up but then fall back over still gasping and not eating or swimming. Top fins look a little beat up but his overall color was fine. All my corals, inverts, and lone clownfish are still doing great.

That's what sucks about our hobby. You can't always see the problem with a fish. I hope to get my stock and keep them for years to come.
