yeah that is big and cheap, check out LA and DD's prices on a clam that size, granted theres are always pretty top notch, not saying your LFS's aren't.

I have never had a clam, however this sounds to me like a lot of changes before you try and introduce a very sensitive animal. I would suggest doing the changes as stated above, plus testing and adjusting mag, and then maintain stable parameters for a month or two.

Just trying to save you some $, frustration, and a clam in case you are not quite ready :)

Stabilize your tank first, I would wait at least a couple weeks for your tank to have the right params.

See if your LFS will hold it for you. Those are unbelievable prices for that size of clam no matter what species.

While you are at it... see if they would ship one to me..... lol

well couldn't get to fish store last night, my dkh was up to 10 when i tested it last night. So the dkh buffer worked. Not sure if it will stay there but, hopefully a couple water changes will stabilize it.

And if you are serious i could probably buy one and ship it to you! haha

Will be able to get to fish store thursday night i believe so hopefully they are still there. But will get pics up asap thursday night!

I use a Red Sea Reef Foundation Pro kit for Calcium, Magnesium, and Alkalinity. Should be much better accuracy than API (for calcium and hardness).

Here is one place you can get it.

+1 I just switched to the red sea kit. I find much better accuracy and results over the salifert, and elos I used. My 2 cents.

So here are the clams, they had about ten, but only have 4 left.

i put 1 on hold, but think i forgot to get a pic of it, if params stay steady i will get it this weekend, also picking up the red sea test kit this weekend for mag alk and cal, and some reef crystals. :) $75 for a dersa, about 6"

all maximas and croceas were sold, only had 4 dersa ones left, but they are supposedly best for beginner clam keepers anyways so probably for the best :)
