I hope I get some help from you guys. I've researched the best canister filters, as well as best lighting sets, and I keep getting different suggestions and opinions from different websites, as well as sales people.
I want a canister filter that will not leak (I have wood floors). Easy to maintain. That will keep the tank very clean. I also want to get the "lunar" effect in a set up that automatically turns the lights on and off as I programmed, that fits to the top of the tank with legs (tank is 48x12).
I was thinking of black sand, live plants that are appropriate for australian rainbow fish, with rocks, and maybe some school fish.
    I was recommended the following:
Lighting: Coralife Lunar Aqualight Deluxe (double Strip) 48', plus 2 65 W pink bulbs, or a T5 with Lunar lights from Aquatic Life with built in timer, plus 2 pink bulbs for the plants
Filter: Fluval 305 or 405; Marineland Canister C360, or Eheim 2026

What do you think. Please help me decide for the proper items, so that my tank looks beautiful, my fish are happy, have babies, and my wife doesn't kick me out for starting with a new project that gets so complicated, that I have no time to keep up.
    Thank you

haha well freshwater could be the way to go if you dont want to get kicked out due to level of complication. unless you really go crazy on plants, then you will need a CO2 injector. that is some serious bank right there, by my standards atleast. check out my 55 gallon fresh tank. it is actually a very low tech set up but i am very happy with how it turned out.
also i am running a canister filter on my tank and it is extremely user friendly and does the job right. i actually got it off of ebay from a bulk seller so there is a chance you could find the same product. it is a jebao 818 canister filter. got it at a great price too. with that and my flora sun bulbs in the lights that came with the tank i am doing great. my parameters are perfect at all times, and my fish are happy, and im happy. make sure you use ro water too. it will save alot of head aches.
    hope this helps!

I ran a C-360 on a 55g fresh for about a year and it was great. Either one pf those lights will be fine as well.

i am not really that familar with the lights but it really sounds like it is definitly more than enough for this. all of the canisters are good choices. fluval and ehiems both run like champs. havent heard much about the marineland but if it is like any of their other products i would guess good. what did you think of my 55?
