Hope this is right place to post query...still trying to find way around forum...

Anyway...am new to "art" of Reef Tanking...first tank (55 gal) still in first week of cycling w/45 lbs of lr...am both "excited" and "anxious" about what is going on it that water...

Thinking I may need some additional water movement other then filter/skimmer...both for now and in future...I looked about and found one of these. (SCWD Wave Machine)

Read earlier posts here on product...would like to hear results...also need advice on how/what I need to set it up in tank...recmd size/type pump, etc...

BTW on special at customaquatic for $39.99

    Much Thanks,

SCWD would have been a better call if you have a sump pump. I have heard nothing but bad things about the Powersweeps. They require constant cleaning or they jam. [smiley=worried2.gif]

Matt - am sure you are right about sump...just too much for me to take on right now...will have to live with the Zoo Meds initially...as soon as they start acting up or appear not to be performing as advertised/or desired...will get a sump system started up. (and as I learn the whats and howto's of doing so)

Right now am quite happy to be as far along as I am...which I know is not too far.

    Rgds,

matt is right on, i have 4 powersweeps and none of them work, just be sure to use a pre filter on them and you could get them to work longer, the scwd in my view is one of the best things made for a reef, i have 2 and they do just what they say(note the new scwd will be out in aug or sept, it will be threaded inputs and outputs and larger for bigger pumps that 1400 gph. it will also have a way to regulate switching) and the best thing: no heat like a lot of powerheads have.

Both power sweeps and SQWDs fail fairly quickly in my experience. My SQWD died in 3 months. I can't tell you how many returns I had on the Powersweeps at the last LFS I worked at.

The SQWD may not produce heat iteself, but thats a real misleading statement. The powerhead driving the SQWD does produce heat, and will produce more then normal due to back pressure from the SQWD. Oceans Motions is producing a no back pressure wave generator, its a lil costly, but far better to anything currently on the market.

I have been using my SCWD for several months now with no problems at all. I have it run as a closed loop with an in-line pump. It works awesome! As far as the powersweeps, they were a waste of money for me. Mine never worked properly. I probably should have returned it.

Have to agree with Gresham somewhat here...

While my SCWD has been working great since I put it in about 5 mos ago...there does seem to be a great deal of heat generated in my sump from the pump pushing it. (Dolphin 1200)...

But other then that am very happy with the way it works.

SCWDS are awesome! Just make sure you pefilter them or they will eventually lock up.

I had a couple of SCWDs fail on me. I tore the last one open and found a lot of calcium despot on the impellers. Wish I took pictures now. [smiley=bigcry.gif] If you soaked them in vinegar for a short period of time to clean them, they should last a lot longer. HTH. [smiley=rolleyes3.gif]
