What a week this is turning out to be. I'm positive my Powder Brown Tang has Ich. Can it appear within hours? I was checking everyone out this morning and noticed nothing. I was just loking in my tank and my Powder Brown has white specs that look like pieces of sand or salt all over his fins and lateral sides of him..... What is step one here? or if someone can put a link up for me to read. I searched "Ich" and the full name and nothing came up. I'm sure there are plenty of posts on here but I can't find them. Thanks

I know there are links to read CBS. Hopefully, Corailline will see this and post it.

As far as what I would recommend, is not to panic....is the fish eating? Is its behavior the same as it has been? I would feed a varied diet and use an appetite enhancer such as garlic or selcon to ensure the fish is eating.

There are many choices to make when you discover a fish has ich primarily determined by what direction you go with it.....if you want to eradicate ich from your system, then it's a much more involved process. My philosophy has been to keep the fish well fed and look for any signs that the fish is getting sicker. If the fish appears healthy other than the white spots, then they can usually fight off the disease but it will continue to be present in your system. Just because the spots are gone, doesn't mean the disease has disappeared.

    That's my .02

+1 don't panic bro. I would finish your move and when you set the tank up again then you can PANIC!! Lol. If the fish seems healthy and normal then just keep feeding as usual. Trying to remove him will stress him out even more causing you more problems. Its a powder brown, I think there born with ich. Lol.

My regal tang has had ich on and off for the last 5 months, seriously.
I dropped the salt level and almost watched the white spots dropping off, 8 weeks later, I up the salt and things are great, a month later, the spots are coming back, I then decided this time, she either battles through or she is done.

She ate well through the whole period, supported with garlic and metroplex, and to date I am all clear, I'm hoping that she is strong enough to keep the ich at bay.

My biggest worry was having a tank big enough for

    Regal tang
    Yellow tang
    Chocolate tang
    Bristle tooth tang

    Emporer angel
    4 clowns (2 orange/white, 2 black/white)
    2 fire fish
    6 stripe wrasse
    Vincent puffer fish
    Coral beauty
    2 neon gobies

My only option was to remove the live rock, (400 Lbs) place it into barrels and pump water in from the tank.(this was a mistake, I believe I transferred the ich back into the tank when I put the rock back in after 8 weeks ? Is that possible ?)

Ich is a nuscience but I do believe given the fish(ES) being strong and eating its worth trying to fight it without gutting the tank.

This is obviously something you need to monitor and manage on individual basis.

She still eats like a champ, but it's all over her now. There's even a spec directly on her eye.. All my other fish seem to be fine. I'm gonna let her ride it out til I move and I'll do something more drastic once my tank is down for the move.

I have not had any good experiences once a fish becomes covered :/ I would personally recommend to act now before it spreads to all of your livestock. If it is a few spots, then absolutely, keep it in the tank and make sure it is being fed nutritious foods. But once it is covered, you will see it seem fine, all spots gone for a couple days, all spots come back (usually worse), and the cycle repeats until the fish succumbs to it.

Again, this is based off my experience. Maybe let it ride through one more cycle. If it becomes covered again, get it out and into a HT.

I'll be moving within a month. I was going to set up a QT for her at the new house. I tried catching her the other day when I posted this, but with all my LR that didn't happen and I didn't want to freak her out further.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
The fish does sound bad off, the parasite is found in the tissues of the gills, there it does the most damage, the fish becomes so hypoxic it dies.

You have chosen conservative treatment now and that is fine but you'll probably loose that fish.

All other fish have most likely been exposed for some time, those fish for what ever reason are just not currently symptomatic. The issue of the exposure is a moot point now.

Completely understand. I did the same when my Flasher Wrasse became covered in Ich. I kept saying to myself it was better to keep him in there instead of trying to remove him and treating him. End result was I lost him, my Royal Gramma, and my female Lubbock's Wrasse to Ich, and my Tiger Wardi Goby when he jumped into the filter of my HT and never recovered.

Not trying to scare you, just share my experience. How many fish are in the tank?
