i just got a new powder brown tang and its about 4in and i have had my yellow tang thats about 5in. i just released my powder brown earlier today and my yellow tang has been chasing him around but not really biting him more like pushing him around. the funny thing is i have a brown scopas tang thats 3in and a blue hippo tang thats 2in and the yellow tang leaves them alone. what do you think i should do.

thats a lot of tang..the yellow is bigger, has been in the aquarium, and thus has become pretty territorial. Usually introduce them at the same time or the biggest last...If it continues i would rearrange the rock in the tank and if that doesnt work I would qt the yellow tang untill the brown tang gets settled and then reintroduce the yellow tang...

I would just leave them to figure it out. Chasing isn't too bad at all, specially for tangs. Even nipping isn't serious. Its when they start backing up to each other when it gets real.
But they are just setting the pecking order is all. Give it a few days before trying anything.

Like I said in another post, when a new fish is added, my YT puts up it's sailfins and chases it around for a little while until it is established that he is the king of the tank. With 4 tangs in a 75 I would expect to see a LOT of aggression as they age.

Wait it out a bit. Mine ripped some skin off of my foxface. But they're kinda buddies now. He bumped the anthias some but like said above... he just wants people to know he's the king of the tank.

am I the only person who thinks this tank is insanely over populated at this point?

I also think its a little overstocked with tangs, especially tangs at 5 and 4 inches. Time to upgrade to a larger tank. Thats probably where the aggression is from.

+1. Didn't you have another thread today about high nitrates? This would be undoubtedly causing that problem as well.
1 yellow tang kept in there full time would be good. You'd be pushing it with two tangs.

Yeah....it will catch up. I wouldn't keep more than two tangs in a tank less than 125g myself, but I am pretty conservative.

As a note, you are pretty much at max in terms of stocking. I wouldn't add any more fish to your system. I am a firm believer in the one inch per 5 gallons rule. Books state 1:3 but IMO that is too much. And your fish are going to grow up one of these days. That hippo will eventually outgrow your tank. I have one in my 90g and am planning to swap him out in a few years when he gets over 8 inches for another in the four to five inch range. If I am not mistaken they can get a foot long.
