I was hoping people could share their tips for getting good shots of their tanks. I have found it increasingly difficult to get good shots.

One of the largest problems seems to be focusing on just exactly what you want. I did just get an Olympus digital that goes under water. I'm hesitant to stick it in the tank, but it should be good up to 10 feet under water and I am hoping to get some good pics with that.

Do you use a digital SLR or just a point-n-shoot?

The last thread I started had to do with Aiptasia last week.

The pic in there was surprisingly taken with a cell phone. Over in the UK (where I am visiting) they have a Sony camera with a cybershot built into it.

Heh! It took me almost 3 month to figure out a decent photo setup for aquaristic photography. I will submit an article about my setup very soon :)

I was hoping you'd reply. You have had some of the best photos posted on the site. If I remember correctly you use HDR imaging to get great results.

Thanks a lot for kind comments! Yup! I do use HDR photography, but it can be tricky sometimes. The success rate of your HDR photography depends mainly on the noise level of differently exposed images!

I cant wait either. For the life of me, I cant take good pics, let alone, great ones. The next time I take a pic, Im going to use a trick I heard with the lights out and using a led flashlight.

    Thanks amcarrig.

Those articles are great for starting off. I hope they help inspire some new photographers to begin to shoot their tanks. We will all benefit from great shots.

I didn't expect Camilsky to write up his HDR guide, but now that he is I am excited for it too.

    Dear 3reefers,
The article is on its way! I still need to take few sample photos for it. As a teaser I want to present a photo of my crazy blue tang:

My PENTAX K10D camera did exceptionally well! This photo was taken in terrible light conditions - deep blue actinics with ISO1600! White balance and color balance have been tweaked in photoshop! Enjoy :)

Yeah shots like that taken in low light are exactly what I am talking about.
