A couple of months ago I purchased a cup coral not really knowing what I was looking at. (Im new to the reef thing but not the aquarium thing). All I knew was I liked the color and shape of this guy. Upon getting it home I noticed a hole in the center that had algae growing from it. I was slightly concerned but all I saw was algae. Which my pygmy angel made quick work of.
The coral itself seems to be dowing much better than when I saw it in the store. It has plenty of flow, lots of light and is being fed a few times a week,(which it seems to really enjoy.)
My question is what is this "hole"? Will it/is there anything I can do to help it heal?
Here is the coral in question, NOTE: forgive the water spots and I actually had to chase the blenny off(seems they like each other) and blow it off so it would retract so you could see some off the center hole.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Typically when algae has over grown the skeleton at some point you can expect it to stay that way.

I do not know of anything you can do other than what you are already doing.

Growing with good color is a huge plus. They are not fast growers.

Thank you for the reply. It seems to be growing with good color, at least its color is 100 times better than what is was at the LFS. Also polyp extension has hugely improved form then as well. You can barely see the skeleton when it opens up. Receives food well and everything. I was just curious if there were any other needs I could supply it to help it along its way. It has taken to the Blenny and vice versa,(it doesn't close up at all when the Blenny lays in it. Seems the blenny chases everyone away from it and I assume that makes the coral happy no one messes with it.
