hey everybody i was wondering are online prices of corals usually more expensive than in your local fish store. i have been looking at corals online and the prices seem really high for a couple of examples one of my first coals was a kenya tree that i think i paid $10 tops for. live aquaria has that same coral for $39.99. i was also looking on ebay today and saw gorilla nipple zoas for $20-$30 with only 2 or 3 heads on the frag i just bought one of the same frags from my LFS for $15 with around 10 heads on it. all those online prices are before shipping also. so am i lucky and have cheap prices locally or are online prices usually more expensive for some reason.

A lot depends on where you live.

Also depends on your LFS and their supplier. The kenya tree at Belair was $60, and that was his cheapest coral. I got it for $12 at Rising Sun. The Pipe Organ was $70 at Belair; I got one the same size from Lancaster for $15. Another LFS in Christiana has $10 stock tanks; any coral you see is only $10. All are private-owned, btw.

It's best to shop around. I like to give local buisness a shot before shopping on the internet but in Florida we have some pretty cool LFS with competitive pricing. It goes both ways though. On divers den mind trick montipora sells for around 40-60 dollars but my LFS has a hard time selling it for 15 dollars. Lol. Shop around and visit some stores too, that's one of the cool things about this hobby as well.
