Great! I think that will be the easiest way to fix them up. I would also suggest buying or renting a sprayer. You will get much better results using a spray gun versus painting them by hand. It will be a pain setting up and cleaning the gun but you will be glad you did in the end. Practice using the gun a few times before hitting the actual cabinets and spray very light coats. Oh and number the cabinet doors with tape so you know which one went where so you don't get them mixed up. Clean, clean, clean, sand, sand, sand, clean, clean, clean.... then paint. Take your time. It will take forever to complete if your busy like me. Move all the doors to the garage and just work on the cabinet frames first. That way you can get your kitchen working again before you finish painting all the doors.

thank you so much for the tips!

is the sprayer better because of time saving or does it look better or both?

I believe the framing where the doors are is solid wood as well. It appears that laminate was added at the outer edges of the framing. Does that make sense?

Absolutely. If you can repair the laminate that is the easiest way to go then clean, scuff, clean again, prime, then paint.

It's amazing what this little roller and brush can do but I have been doing it for a long time. For best results application with a sprayer would be ideal.

do I sand the laminate sheet? sorry, this laminate thing is confusing. I actually dated a guy that was a painter many years ago, and it was amazing what an awesome job he could do given the experience. No need to tape off - straight line every time.
