Anyone else have a Nuvo Mini 38/Micro 30? If so perhaps we could start a thread to share our experience.

    Procedure alert Nuvo Mini 38

I didn't pay much attention to the effect on the protein skimmer the first time I changed the filters because it was new and breaking in.

BUT I discovered with the last filter change that the protein skimmer goes to heavy wet skimming after the filter change. I have turned my skimmer off, and will work it back into the mix on a daily start and test basis. I suspect that it will probably have to be off for at least three or four days. Will post as I discover the duration.

Looks like it takes three days for the skimmer to settle out. I'm not sure how much impact the salt I am using has on this, as it has been described as "The reaction to the skimmer was so impressive in fact its like pouring Sodium lauryl sulfate into running tap water." in this (Tropic Marin BIO ACTIF salt reviewed) review.

I'm on the verge of getting the Nuvo 30 and was looking for some opinions actually...
    Just overall like and dislikes.

It's between a JBJ 28 with LEDs or the Nuvo 30 with the 30W Skyye.
Seems like it's going to essentially be $250-$300 more for the Nuvo, and from what I can tell it's paying for the design/style am I right?

I do really like them though.

Would you guys who have them buy them again, or go a different route?

I would buy again. Like all new products, there is a learning curve of which equipment works best with it, but I believe you can find posts regarding that. Check out this post: http://www.3reef.com/forums/show-off-your-fish-tanks/jims-nuvo-mini-38-a-123820-7.html#post1268118
Newbie with tank up two weeks and running like a champ.

I have had a JBJ 28 (not with LEDs) and had nothing but problems with it. I had to by a chiller just to keep the temp normal, and the glass on the Nuvo Mini 38 is very clear where the JBJ is very green.

    Hope this helps.

    Mini 38 Up and Running

I bought the Mini 38 in Lansing last week. It's been up and running since Friday night. The stand was a display and scratched up, so I'm waiting on that (they're backordered).

Otherwise, I've used Adicus's posts to make my transition a little smoother. Absolutely appreciate you posting such detail of what you've done.

I've always had freshwater and it was time to make the leap.

I'm sure I will be posting question after question but for now, the tank is settling in nicely, crystal clear and not ugly.

    Cheers,
    Adam

    Adam,

Glad my posts were helpful. An addition that I made which I thought necessary was a light guard to keep the LED light out of the back chamber. I had a lot of unwanted algae developing back there. Since I installed the light guard, the algae has all died off and it's clean once again. It also reduced the pump noise. To make the light guard:

    • I purchased a sheet of acrylic
    • Cut it to fit over the back chamber using three of the mounting brackets that were there for the glass.
    • Painted it black and let it cure.
    • Once it was fitted, I ordered more mounting brackets from Innovative Marine that were smaller to fit the back.

    more lighting options

I see that Innovative Marine is now offering additional selections to their 92 Watt Skkye series. Below is for the black series.
