    I guess my point is I am trying to control my nitrates with water changes.

    Also keep in mind that absolute zeros are not always good, in terms of nitrate perhaps but you need a little po4 (less than 5ppm) in the system for coral tissue recovery (if im not mistaken)

    How old is your tank and what type of filtration do you have? That will determine if your exporting your nutrients effeciently. Are you running any media? You may want to try to do 5 gallon water changes once a week instead of 6 gallons every two weeks to help with nutrients.

    +1 to all above. Do you use bioballs, filterfloss, or filter socks? Sometimes those things can be detritus traps.

    Agreed, don't get too caught up in chasing numbers.
