Urgent New to this please help.. Anemone

I have a 50 gal salt water tank and I have a long tentacle anemone that was moving around a LR and fell off into the sand, he looks fine, he has been in the tank about 3 mo. The LR he was on is smooth and the LR he is next to isn't. Should I move him or leave him in the sand?

Hi Paula and welcome to 3reef.

Typically if anemone looks fine and is not in danger of moving into a power head, heater or over flow I leave them alone. Anemones are going to go where the conditions (light, current) are best for them.

 

+1 to what coralline said, if it doesn't look bad, don't touch it, it'll go where it wants to.

Plus, I believe LTA's like to attach there foot at the base of the rock, in the sand.

 

yep, moving it where YOU would like will only stress it and waste its energy as it moves to where IT likes. post a picture if you can

the mouth is firmly closed most of the time yes?

 

Here is what he is doing today, away from rock and attaching to glass. Yes his mouth is closed! I Wii try to up load a pic to my album..

 

Va is right. If you clear a small spot of sand near your rock and place it in it so that it can attach to the bottom glass, it will most likely settle down.

Anemones typically go to the top of the tank in search of more intense lighting. LTA's typically reside in the sand or lower areas of the tank not high on the glass. Seems you have some sort of lighting or flow issue.
