New Maxima Clam

I just bought a Maxima clam from my friend $35, Its about 2 inches. But it doesn't fully open, Is this normal since's it's really small?

 

Hey, if you already have this question going on another thread, don't open up a new one. Even if the clam is small, it should still fully open. There a great sticky thread under the clam forum section that has a lot of great info about clams and their care. Maybe you should check that out. Can we get a pic of it too?

 

Make sure its on a rock (not on the sand) and that you have the lighting for it. Also at that small, it will need at least once daily phyto feedings. IMHO, you really shouldn't even try one under 3", specially for your first clam. They are just so much harder to care for when young. Just be ready for it.

 

I got mine it is about 3 inches but it should be fully out. Make sure you have the proper lighting for it and the right water conditions. Mine is on the sandbed and doing fine however, it can get irritated by sand constantly being flung on it. I would've put mine on the rock except it kept falling and the next day it had its foot attached on the glass underneath the sandbed.

 

Mines is on my sand bed & The guy i bought it from had upgrade his tank. Thats prob. why its not fully out, But i floated it in a bag for 20 mins & drip acclimated it for 1 hour. Should be 2-3 days for it to fully acclimate correct?

 

I'm glad someone brought this up. I'm raising mine without feeding it. If it happens to get something off of the Rod's Food or weekly CF feedings, I suppose it's a good thing.

 

Did you burp the clam as well (gently rolling it underwater to get the air bubbles out of it)?

Do you also smell it when you're about to feed the fish? It smells funky, but I just can't help myself. It really is a no-brainer food
