if your using phytoplankton, I suggest DT's or phytofeast, these are live phytoplankton and are extremely superior products for filter feeders. FYI electric flame scallops are extremely hard to keep alive in the home aquarium.

Yep flame scallops are extremely difficult. I had one for a short period but it kept going in the rock to where I couldn't get to it to feed it (they need to be fed CONSTANTLY), so I took it in on a trade.

so the clam died a few days ago...wasn't happy about that but only had myself to blame...the T5 HO come tuesday...but already too late. i use tap water not RO, and one of my friends suggested that that added to the cause because the place where i got it from uses RO water and that is just one more thing adding stress to it...so with all that being said...I have been scanning the internet and local places for a Ro or RODI system. i was told to remove all my livestock and LR and put into some 5 gallon pails while i do a huge water change and replace the water with all RO water. Now I was also told to do a smaller water change and start using Phosphate removers because the phospahtes will still be in my LR. any suggestions on which method to use? i would plan on using phosphate remover for both but the smaller water change method seemed like less stress for livestock to me. I would like to add a clam again, but that probably wont happen for at least another month or two, i really don't want to mess this up again and i want the clam to be happy. any other suggestions?

I dont think it died because of the lights. A deresa clam is very forgiving (the only clam I know of) when it comes to lighting. This is the one and only clam that can be successfully kept under PC's. Look into your phosphates, also you never mentioned your dKH or ALK? Clams have a high demand for ALK.

flame scallops are cool but they do need to be target fed w/phyto or some form of filter feeder food when i feed mine i turn off all pumps and shoot it just down from it ,as for the clams i wish you luck w/t5 but i really think mh is the only way to get good results i have 6 maximas and 1 crocea under 2/250 mh check my photos i first tryed clams under 4/96 watt pc but didnt have much luck ,also they are calcium hogs so you need to keep calcium at 450

oh btw alk was high...very high actually...like 17 i believe...my bad tho... added kent liquid reactor...a bit too much...in conjunction with kent nano A and B (which state that you shouldn't add anything else except marine c vitamin c...which i also dose on occasion). my own fault...which sucks...goes to show you just when you think you know something you find out how little you really know...i took off the PC's and put on the T5's and all i gotta say is wow...look ten times better with T5's on there...i bought a RODI unit too and that should be coming in this week. going to completely re-do my tank...again...but with the proper equipment/water/lighting/etc...been thinking about buying a clam online actually, since there is a 14 day guarentee with most places...so with that being said should i still go with another derasa? or if i can get a crocea for the same price should i go for that? keep in mind this wouldn't be for another month or two until everything is stable and as close to ideal as possible.
