I am picking up a $500 LED unit this weekend. I'll let you know if it's the real deal.

I'd go with a 250W halide and a good reflector. These can cover about 2 feet.

I went with AquariumLEDSolutions.com. I got two 60Watt panels for my 55 gallon tank to replace halides and I'd never look back. LED lighting is no doubt the future and I am very impressed with the brightness of these things. My SPS, LPS everything, doing great.

I had a DIY T5/MH combo and the replacement bulbs were costing me 600 a year (2 MH, 8 T5...yeah it was a bit over kill). I switched to LED and built my own array in 2010 and was quite pleased. The results were great and I can't argue with the savings I have by not replacing bulbs. However lately I have been thinking of adding 2 T5s to the mix to give a variety in lighting.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
