Fonty, if all you have to worry about is whether one company will honor another companies request, you have hit the jack pot. I think others would agree this is really gotten blown way out of proportion. Let it go dude, move on.

I have to say this thread confuses me. The OP reported a problem that it appears was a legitimate problem. Doing so has done a service to the community, to consumers, and to the retailer who is now aware of a way in which customers are being lost and can act to keep more happy customers.

The retailer has come on here, admitted fault, and acted to correct the situation. A sign of a good retailer that I would certainly be happy to do business with in the future (I have in the past with always good results).

Shouldn't we all share information and work politely with each other to resolve differences? Is there a dollar threshold below which the right thing is no longer the right thing? I personally much prefer this kind of open communication and private resolution to the alternative, which is having some distant organization do the policing for us.

Thank you to the people that didn't get lost in the confusion of this thread. It wasn't the dollar amount or monetary gain or loss that prompted me to create this thread . It wasn't about asking for freebies from them either. It was about a company offering an incentive or promotion to its customers and not honoring it due to reasons that were not legitimate. To tell you the truth, I do not know how they would have handled the situation if I did not post here. The case was already escalated to a supervisor and the supervisor gave the same reason in denying the price match. I then posted here to offer my feedback and review of the situation. I was then repeatedly questioned by some members here. I had to defend myself, based on speculation by members, as to why Marine Depot was handling my case in the way they were.

In the end, I think Marine Depot will take their Low Price Guarantee more seriously and adhere to their policies. They will probably think twice about arbitrarily denying price matches. This is beneficial to both Marine Depot and its customers. It makes them a stronger company.

I do believe we can hold them accountable. You do so by letting your wallet do the talking. Shop somewhere else.

This seems somewhat mean spirited and is putting words in my mouth. There is a distinct difference between a business who's business practices don't favor a consumer and one that damages the planet in doing business. In the former consumers are not hurt by it. They choose where they shop and can always go somewhere else. It's free market and consumerism at its core. In the latter it hurts everyone and therefore everyone has a say.

In the future please don't put words in my mouth or assume you know what I stand for. Is ascribing me to beliefs you have no business in assuming I have simply a way of picking a fight? Or is it a way to push some hidden agenda? Because trying to equate saving $5 on a heater to eco-damaging practices is the definition of hyperbole.
