The red sea reefer is the better choice IMO. It's a well designed system and for what you get for 1200 is a good value especially since red sea can be expensive. There quality is great.

you can trust RedSea as a brand in general. from their test-kits to their tanks...at least thats my feelings towards them

I went and saw Matt at the Mad Reefer today and talked to him for about 2 hours. He was a huge wealth of information. He recommended an LPS dominant reef tank based on what I told him I wanted out of my new setup. I asked him about the tanks too, and he also said Red Sea is very good, however, I'm interested in the flexibility of being able to design my own sump system, and the tanks Red Sea sells he was saying that although they are very good, they are not hugely customizable. With that being said, if I'm looking for something customizable, is tank brand less of a factor, or am I just looking for something that fits the size specs I want?

Ultimately you should get what you want but the sump that comes with the reefer series tank is a well designed sump with all the R and D that comes from red sea.
