LED/T5 Hybrid Reef Lights, BRS TV 52 Weeks of Reefing, wk 19

After using only LED's for awhile now, I can say my corals are fair. Many of them are just surviving instead of growing, while others die and some flourish. My chemistry and feeding is a fine, so what gives?

I think its my single point source LED lighting... Its hard to overlook the comeback those tanks made after being put under LED/T5 hybrid lighting.

 

my tank has been doing fine under just LEDs. they grow like weeds and I mostly do chalice and pectinia. could be placement ot maybe the par on the lights could be lower then what's advertised? idk just my 2 cents

edit: also in the long run, money wise the LEDs will always economical.

 

I prefer experimental data to anecdotal experience, and it looks like BRS did their homework on this one. Not to mention, those two tanks in the video that both made dramatic improvements once a LED/T5 combo was installed.

PAR is not my issue or rarely the issue with LED's. There seems to be an spectrum continuity problem with point source LED's as a stand alone light source, which is easily countered with the implementation of T5's in combination with LED's.

I have my eye on that Giesemann Aurora...

 

Shoot I'd be much happier with just T5 over just LEDs.

A hybrid would be pretty cool for obvious reasons. If budget is not a worry, I'd do T5/halide.
