I have decided to replant the tank. I am going to go with a SE Asia style biotope.

The first step was an upgrade of the lighting. I changed over from 260W PC lighting to 216W T5HO.

The retro fit kit from Hellolights.com. The kit comes with everything you need except screws to mount the end caps and the tools. This is actually 2 2X54W kits

Here is the old lights and to be fair the bulbs are 1 year old.

Here is the new lights, 2 5100K Phillips, 1 UVL Aqua Sun and 1 UVL Actinic White. The order is 5100K, Aqua Sun, 5100K and Actinic White from front to back.

Changed out the front 5100K and the Actinic White for 6500K bulbs. You can see the growth and color change on the leaves.

I will be ordering plants from Aquariumplants.com soon. I will be ordering Ambulia, various Rotala species, various Cryptocoryne species, some Hygrophyla species and possibly some Aponogeton species.

For fish I am going to buy some Pearl Gouramis and Rasbora heteromorpha.

The colors look much nicer with the T5HO. The pc look so green.

I can't wait to see how it comes out :).

I did too at first. Thanks

The PC are 6500K so having some red spectrum is a visual improvement, thanks

Looks very good John! I'd think to add a few neon tetras, but that's probably because I'm a tetra person; never really been a fan of gouramis although I had one a few years back.

I have done the tetra thing with this tank before. I had Cardinal, Neon and Rummynose Tetras.

Ah, I see. How about some swordtails and maybe glofish? Well you need to look up whether or not they're legal in your state; I actually do think they're illegal in some places, and I also believe it's illegal to breed them as well. Not to say I don't like your livestock, but it's a pretty big tank.

Swordtails don't fit the SE Asia theme since they are from South America, same for the tetras. I have some Zebra Danios in my tank already. Just don't care that much for unnatural coloration.
